Nick Palmer, Conductor
Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra
Conductor Nick Palmer leads the Plymouth Philharmonic in this rhapsody-filled concert, celebrating the juxtaposition of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, which turns 100 this year, with Freddie Mercury’s Bohemian Rhapsody. SSC Youth Orchestra takes the stage for a special side-by-side performance of Coleridge-Taylor’s The Bamboula, Rhapsodic Dance for Orchestra, conducted by Elijah Langille. Other works on the program include Liberty Fanfare, a triumphant tribute to Lady Liberty by iconic film composer John Williams, “Three Dance Variations” from Bernstein’s Fancy Free, featured in the movie Maestro, and Copland’s Lincoln Portrait. Victor Cayres is piano soloist on Rhapsody in Blue.
